FAQ

Is online tutoring effective?

Because our sessions are on a virtual whiteboard, I'm able to enhance the learning experience by:

There are also some drawbacks for online tutoring, like additional distractions and the need for students to have a stylus and a touchscreen device.

To find out if online tutoring will work for you, I recommend giving it a try.  You are welcome to book a free consultation to discuss your specific needs and concerns.

How does it work?

After confirming an appointment, I will send you the Virtual Whiteboard and Zoom links by email. You're asked to send photos/screenshots of the questions you need help with.

For our first session, I'll give you a brief tour of the whiteboard so you know how to use the toolbar and navigate.

During tutoring, I'll guide you through example problems and we'll create step-by-step reference guides together, aiming for you to gain the confidence to solve each question on your own.

After each session, I send an email of recommended next steps, and a pdf of all the notes we took.

How long have you been tutoring?

I have been tutoring for 15 years (since 2007). I have tutored at Edison State College in the past, but have found that I have much more capacity for a positive impact by working as a self-employed math tutor independently.

What are your rates?

Online tutoring with me is $60 per hour, which includes:

In-person tutoring with me is $80 per hour and discounts are available (just ask!)

Can I purchase a package?

Yes, a package is recommended as the most impactful way to achieve your academic goals! Package options include 12 hours (10% off), 24 hours (12% off), or 36 hours (15% off), and can be customized to your needs.

How does payment work?

I accept many forms of payment, including PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and Cash App. Payment can be made after each tutoring session, or as part of a package in advance.

What happens in a free consultation?

We can spend 15 to 30 minutes chatting about your goals, needs, and questions. Choose between a Zoom call or phone call, whatever is best for you.

How do I book an appointment?

I have a convenient online tool that lets you book an appointment any time of day, by clicking here.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please cancel with more than 24 hours advanced notice to avoid fees. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the start time of the appointment will be charged the full amount of the session. There's no charge for cancelling the day before as long as it's more than 24 hours! Thank you for understanding.

Can you help with study skills and organization?

Yes, these skills are very important for overall academic success. I am happy to guide you through strengthening your study skills, developing more organization for your notes and your planner, plus remedies and techniques to overcome test anxiety.

Do you teach students with learning disabilities?

Yes. Learning disabilities can create difficult environments for class and that is why many students come to me for supplemental instruction. One-on-one tutoring is a great way for students with special needs or ADHD to stay on track and get the support that works for their neurotype.

I have a different question. How can I contact you?

I welcome any additional questions you have. You may use this contact form or book a free consultation to discuss. I look forward to hearing from you!
